What is BWC?

BWC stands for Bureau of Workers’ Compensation.
BWC acts as an insurance provider for an employee who gets hurt on the job.
Every company has an MCO (Managed Care Organization) or TPA (Third Party Administrator).

What is an MCO (Managed Care Organization)/TPA (Third Party Administrator)?

A MCO or Managed Care Organization are employers that go through state funded BWC.
The MCO will manage the medical portion of a workers’ compensation claim.
TPA or Third Party Administrator is a private company hired by an employer to manage their workers’ compensation claims.

How to find out who your MCO/TPA company if you have been injured on the job:

Patients are required to reach out to their employer’s Human Resources Department to obtain the MCO/TPA.
Our office is unable to schedule BWC patients without their MCO/TPA information.

What forms/information is required to be seen as a BWC patient:

The First Report of Injury or FROI is required by every BWC patient. Patients are required to bring the FROI to their first BWC appointment at our office.

BWC patients are required to provide their social security numbers to our office.

Additional BWC Information:

Our providers can only treat patients with an Ohio BWC Claim. For any BWC claims outside of the state of Ohio, our office is unable to schedule.

The patient cannot have another physician of record. If they do, the patient will need to have an approved C9 for an orthopedic consult. The patient will sign a change of physician form while at our office if the provider is able to take over the patients care.

Patients can come here if they only have been seen at the ER or an Urgent Care.

Patient can be seen as a walk-in directly after injury occurs during our clinic hours.

Our office will need to add the patients commercial, Medicaid or Medicare insurance on file as well as their BWC information.

If calling to schedule a BWC appointment at our office, our front desk will transfer your call to our BWC Specialist to ensure patients have provided all of the information needed to schedule their appointment.
