Sportsmetrics USA Logo

At Orthopedic Specialists & Sports Medicine, we are dedicated to helping keep our athletes safe. That’s why our physical therapists offer Sportsmetrics™, a comprehensive jump training program that combines a dynamic warm-up, plyometrics, strength training, speed and agility training, and flexibility. This program has been scientifically proven to reduce the risk of a knee injury as well as increase jump power and improve leg strength in sports that involve pivoting, cutting, and jumping.

What Is the Importance of Sportsmetrics?

Each year, around 300,000 people in the United States sustain a tear to their anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in the knee joint. The ACL is crucial in providing stability to the knee during sports activities, such as running, jumping, cutting, and pivoting. An ACL tear can result in the loss of a full season, school time, a scholarship, and even an entire sports career. Female athletes are four to eight times more at risk of an ACL injury compared to male athletes.

What Is the Impact of Sportsmetrics?

Sportsmetrics is the only scientifically proven ACL injury prevention program represented nationally and internationally, with 10 countries certified to use the program.

Over the last 10 years in the United States, Sportsmetrics has certified physical therapists, athletic trainers, strength and conditioning coaches, and more. There are more than 2,100 certified individuals at over 1,200 certified sites, with numbers growing each year.

Get Screened for Injury Risks

The test takes less than 10 minutes. One screening test is a video analysis of the athlete’s control of the knee during deceleration and acceleration. Another is video analysis of jumping mechanics, where the athlete is videotaped jumping off a 12” box to the floor and directly performing a maximum vertical jump. Analysis software will provide objective measurements of the knee movement during the landing and jumping.

A signed consent form is required by the athlete’s parent. This test is offered at no cost on a first-come-first-serve basis. Athletes should be at least 10 years old and wearing fitted Lycra shorts or leggings. Shoes are required.
